Gulf Shores Announces Full Slate Of Holiday Events

Gulf Shores, Ala – November 15, 2013 – Whether it’s catching a hilarious holiday musical or marveling at the glow of the lighted parade, families won’t have to look very far for a little fun and excitement this season.
The City of Gulf Shores has announced a full slate of events planned for its annual holiday celebration and invites locals and visitors to enjoy their Christmas on the Alabama Gulf Coast. “The City of Gulf Shores is proud to be partnering with the Alabama Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce and local businesses in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach to promote the Coastal Christmas campaign,” said Grant Brown, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Director. “We encourage all businesses to participate by decorating for the season to help make our community an unforgettable holiday destination.”
Tuesday, December 3 – A Christmas Musical Celebration starring Brian Gurl Gulf Shores will kick off their holiday festivities at the Erie H. Meyer Civic Center on Tuesday, December 3 at 7 p.m. with A Christmas Musical Celebration starring pianist, vocalist and musical director Brian Gurl. This five person production features a wide variety of Christmas melodies and holiday favorites – performed like you’ve never heard them before – with a taste of Rock ‘n Roll, Broadway, Jazz and a little bit of comedy. “The audience better get ready for a jazzy, rocky, white hot, rollicking good time,” said Gurl. “Greensleeves will never be the same and Jingle Bells better hang on for dear life because we’re going to melt Frosty faster than a balmy Gulf Shores afternoon!” Free tickets for the show are available at the Activity Center box office on a first come, first serve basis. The box office is located at 260 Clubhouse Drive and office hours are Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Friday, December 6 – Lighted Christmas Parade and Beach Celebration The holiday fun continues on Friday, December 6 with the Gulf Shores Lighted Christmas Parade and Beach Celebration. The evening parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will feature festive lighted floats from around the region. Large crowds of spectators looking to soak up the holiday spirit are anticipated along Highway 59 as parade entries make their way from Clubhouse Drive to the Gulf Shores Public Beach. “We couldn’t be more excited about this year’s parade,” said Programs and Events Manager, Brigette Reynolds. “Our parade has grown tremendously over the last several years and we hope that introducing our first lighted nighttime parade will make the atmosphere of this event even more magical.” Reynolds noted that anyone interested in entering the parade can do so by registering online or by contacting Candice Carraway at 251-968-1173. The excitement from the parade will roll continuously into the night as the celebration at the Gulf Shores Public Beach will kick off immediately following the parade. Families can enjoy a stunning lighting ceremony followed by pictures with Santa, a live nativity, holiday treats, crafts and much more. Thursday, December 12 – City of Gulf Shores Christmas Open House
On Thursday, December 12, the City of Gulf Shores will open its doors to host its annual Christmas Open House. The night will begin at 6 p.m. with crafts, games and treats at the David L. Bodenhamer Recreation Center, Gulf Shores Museum, Thomas B. Norton Public Library and South Baldwin Community Theater. Santa will highlight the night as he arrives at the Erie H. Meyer Civic Center at 7:30 p.m. After visiting with Santa, families are invited inside to cap off the evening with a free performance by the Gulf Coast’s leading performance choir, The Coastal Chorale. Saturday, December 21 – Breakfast with Santa
You’ll have one more opportunity to visit with Santa on Saturday, December 21 as Gulf Shores hosts Breakfast with Santa at the Erie H. Meyer Civic Center. Beginning at 8 a.m., families can dive into a wholesome breakfast complete with sausage, bacon, eggs and pancakes before having their pictures taken with Santa. Admission for Breakfast with Santa is $5.00, while children 3 and under are free. Tuesday, December 31 – New Year’s Eve Beach Bash
Gulf Shores will close out its holiday season by ringing in 2014 with the New Year’s Eve Beach Bash at the Gulf State Park Pavilion. The event kicks off at 8 p.m. and festivities on the beach include a large bonfire, campfires with s’mores and a live DJ, while Top Hat and Jackie will be providing live entertainment under the pavilion. The evening will be highlighted by a spectacular fireworks display from the Gulf State Park Pier at 10 p.m. followed by a second show to ring in the New Year at midnight. This first-time event is the result of a partnership between the City of Gulf Shores, Gulf State Park and the City of Orange Beach and will officially kick off the statewide celebration of the 75th Anniversary of Alabama’s State Parks.
