Famous Dishes And Featured Restaurants Along Alabama's Gulf Coast

On your next trip to the beach, The Year of Alabama Food has made picking a place to eat a little easier.

Designed for travelers, the campaign run by the Alabama Tourism Department has featured six restaurants each in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach in the initial rollout of its new web site.  Whether you’re craving seafood or burgers, breakfast or dessert, there’s something on the list for every taste.

Featured eateries in Gulf Shores include Hope’s Cheesecake, King Neptune’s, Lulu’s at Homeport Marina, the Original Oyster House, Tacky Jack’s, and The Hangout.  In Orange Beach, Cosmo’s Restaurant and Bar, Ginny Lane Bar & Grill, Guthrie’s, Hazel’s Seafood Restaurant, Tacky Jack’s, and Wolf Bay Lodge earned featured spots.

A couple of select restaurants are also spotlighted for their “Famous Dishes.”  Here LuLu’s gets a nod for her Cheeseburger in Paradise, and Cosmo’s checks in with Sea Bass in Banana Leaves.

The foodie favorite list of “100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama Before You Die” will get another update soon (eliminating establishments that have closed), and there is sure to be some Gulf Coast flavor represented.  The current list names cheesecake from Hope’s Cheesecake, “L.A. (Lower Alabama) Caviar” of black-eyed peas (recipe) & “Cheeseburger in Paradise” at Lulu’s, peanut butter pie from the Original Oyster House, Royal Red Shrimp at King Neptune’s, seafood platter & gumbo at Wolf Bay Lodge, the Wipe Out Burger at The Hangout, and the farmer’s omelet from Tacky Jack’s.

The Year of Alabama Food is the 8th annual “Year Of” effort from the Alabama Tourism Department, on the heels of last year’s Year of Alabama Music.  It’s also the second time food has been honored, thanks to its immense popularity the first go-round.
