In in the wake of the deadliest mass shooting in American history, Gulf Shores police are on high alert as they prepare for the 46th annual National Shrimp Festival.
As reported by WKRG News, during the four-day event, which starts October 12th, more than a hundred thousand people are expected to attend. When asked about the vulnerability of such a large crowd, Gulf Shores Police spokesman Sgt. Jason Woodruff said, “It’s something we plan for and really have looked at for years.”
That’s why the Gulf Shores Police Department has been training diligently at large music festivals like Lollapalooza and Coachella. By working with crowds of a similar size, they can enhance their tactical preparedness, should a risk present itself in Gulf Shores. “We wouldn’t dare get into our tactics, techniques or procedures but those are things we have looked at for years,” said Woodruff.
The festival will take place on the Gulf Shores public beach by the Hangout. Security will be conducted by Gulf Shores Police and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.
