ORANGE BEACH, Alabama – The Blue Marlin Grand Championship announced Monday night that, due to weather, the fourth and final tournament of the Gulf Coast Triple Crown would postpone from this weekend until next weekend.
The statement said the forecasted lightning was one of the biggest concerns but that the schedule at The Wharf in Orange Beach will just be pushed back one week.
“After much consultation over the past 36 hours, with every forecasting resource available, the threat of severe lightning and offshore thunderstorms this weekend is most concerning to us. The feedback we have received from the teams committed to fish this tournament shares our concerns,” the tournament posted Monday night. “The safety of our team, your team, and our sponsors will always be the driving force to make tough decisions such as this.”
It said the kickoff party and dinner remained on schedule for this Wednesday but the shotgun start at Perdido Pass will be delayed until Thursday, July 21.
“We are postponing, not canceling the 2022 Blue Marlin Grand Championship. We will fish next week, but we will party this week,” the post said. “Let’s raise a glass to safety and look forward to next week with a better forecast for The Greatest Show in Sportfishing. We are pushing our fishing schedule back exactly one week. Depart from The Wharf at 10:01, for the shotgun start at Perdido Pass on Thursday, July 21.”
Stay tuned for more updates on the tournament.
